The Abura Clan (油一族, Abura Ichizoku?) is one of the major clans of Takigakure and the clan that serves as the village’s leader; they also serve as the leader of the Land of Waterfalls. This is due to the fact that the Land of Waterfalls is a very minor country with no particular merit of heading it, as such, it does not have a daimyo as other countries do. As a result of their role, the Abura Clan is a highly militarized clan as being situated in a small village and country would make it difficult to protect themselves from invasions unless they themselves stood up; the Abura Clan is extremely proud of the fact that their home has never once been successfully invaded.

Background[]

The Abura Clan has its origins in the birth of a single person, Abura Uchiha, to the patriarch of the Uchiha Clan, Tajima Uchiha, as the youngest of his six children. It was noted from birth that Abura Uchiha was very different from her siblings; her eyes were not the midnight black of normal Uchiha but instead, they took on a shade of bright emerald green. When Abura turned four, she manifested the powers of her eyes, the Teiōgan, however, due to the fact that she did not awaken the Sharingan, the Uchiha Clan thought that she was weak and expelled her from the clan; this is also the reason why she does not exist in normal history as her very existence was erased from the Uchiha Clan. (However, Madara Uchiha did not particularly like this and he, in particular, made frequent visits to his youngest sibling and one and only sister.)

A few Uchiha Clan members did not like this decision and chose to desert the rest of the clan and follow the exiled princess. Some also had a secondary objective manifesting in their curiosity to truly discover the true capabilities of the princess’s green eyes. Abura and those who followed her migrated from the Land of Fire to the Land of Waterfalls where they banded together to subjugate the indigenous people living there to found the village of Takigakure. The village was then governed in a style similar to an absolute monarchy, with Abura as the first queen and her clansmen being members of the royal family (the Abura Clan only really started once Abura’s children began having their own children; the members of the Uchiha Clan that had deserted the main Uchiha Clan aren’t technically members of the Abura Clan and are, in fact, the beginning of a separate Uchiha Clan residing in the Hidden Waterfall).

The Abura Clan were active in the post-war peace of the Warring States Period, attempting to bond with other hidden villages. They did try to explicitly avoid contact with Konohagakure, due to the main Uchiha Clan taking residence there. The main lineage (that is, the direct descendants of Abura Uchiha) of the Abura Clan was almost erased when Kakuzu went rogue after he failed in his mission to assassinate Hashirama Senju, however, they were able to survive. Following this, they also participated in the three major conflicts ever since the end of the Warring States Period, the First, Second, and Third Shinobi World Wars, but did not have any particularly forward roles. The Abura Clan later come into possession of the Seven-Tails, Chōmei, sometime between the Second and Third Shinobi World Wars and it remained without a jinchūriki until it was sealed into ; however, the Abura Clan failed to provide enough protection for their jinchūriki and as such, she was captured and subsequently killed by the Akatsuki for her Tailed Beast. [time period is now the same as OG Naruto (aka Part I)]

Abilities[]

As an offshoot of the Uchiha Clan, the Abura were known for having an innate aptitude for all combat-oriented skills and an advanced growth rate. They also have an especially potent chakra quality as well as a natural affinity for the fire nature transformation. Like the Uchiha Clan, the Abura also have their own coming-of-age are not truly considered adults until they can successfully achieve Teiōgan Burst Mode. Like their parent clan, exceptional members of the Abura Clan have such skill with Fire Release that either multiple Water Release users working in tandem or a similarly skilled Water Release user are required to extinguish their flames. The Abura are also known to use various ninja tools, however, unlike the Uchiha clan, the Abura are more known for their unparalleled skill in kenjutsu which is rumored to rival, or even surpass, the skills of the samurai of the Land of Iron.

The Abura Clan are most feared for their dōjutsu kekkei genkai, the Teiōgan. They can use their Teiōgan to see chakra and the Chakra Pathway System, nullify most genjutsu, perform Space–Time Ninjutsu and, most infamously, enter the high-level transformation of Teiōgan Burst Mode. Like the Uchiha's Sharingan, the Teiōgan is such a versatile and feared ability that many ninja consider it wiser to simply flee than face an Abura in one-on-one combat.

Trivia[]

  • The symbol of the clan is coincidentally the same as the symbol for one of the two training areas for Sages, Mount Myoboku, as the kanji for "abura" is the same as the kanji for "oil"; the clan symbol is usually printed on the backs of their specially-made combat uniforms.
