Stripped of his identity at the fragile age of five, Ame (雨, Rain) was among the forty-two candidates for an experiment on the orders of the Second Mizukage for the Hunter-nin. Referred to as Project Serpent, the Second Mizukage sought to create super soldiers who worked within the shadows of Kirigakure no Sato in ways that put even the Seven Shinobi Swordsman of the Mist to shame. The results proved disastrous and out of the forty-two candidates only three survived after four years of experimentation and training. Shortly before his death, the Second Mizukage ordered that a final test be administered before the program be deemed a failure and pitted the final three subjects against each other. Ame was the sole survivor of Project Serpent.
Following the Second Mizukage's death, many of the researchers and associates of Project Serpent were killed in fear that they would share the vital information that they discovered on the orders of the Third Mizukage. Placed into the Hunter-nin, Ame would gradually ascend to the rank of Captain (隊長, taichou) where he would remain for years to come. As one of the highest-standing members of the Hunter-nin, Ame is regarded by his associates as the Blank Slate (空石板, Karasekiban) due to the fact that he constantly hides behind his mask and lacks a true name and life.
Personality[]
He is the man without a face; this is a status that Ame has upheld for his entire life, having been stripped of his identity at the fragile age of six. Ame lives to serve his superiors, lacking any strive or goal that is his own. The perfect soldier was the goal of Project Serpent, and as the last survivor of the project Ame is living proof that the hundreds of deaths were not in vain. It would be an insult to refer to Ame as a person, as a proper name for him would be a weapon. Ame epitomizes the aspects of the Hunter ninja unlike any of the shinobi or kunoichi of Kirigakure no Sato's past; a master of silence, stealth, and lacking any emotion whatsoever. He works not on his own ambitions or goals, but on the orders of his superiors. Ame lacks a voice of reason, just as he lacks the ability to feel guilt or any signs of individuality. When he is ordered to perform a certain action, Ame will go through with it until his job is done. During the start of the Third Shinobi World War, Ame was tasked with annihilating a small and poor fishing village towards the west of the Land of Water in an effort to spark conflict with the shinobi of Konohagakure no Sato who had slowly begun progressing into the Land of Water. Ame showed no restraint as he entered the village in the middle of the night. One-hundred men, women, and children of all ages died on that night and Ame returned back to the village. He was unfazed by his actions, and was able to sleep peacefully the following night as he had every night.
Willing to go the farthest lengths to complete the mission, Ame is a man without morals making him a perfect killer. On a moments notice, Ame is willing to die for the village and has displayed a willingness to sacrifice anything in the name of the mission. Once during a mission to take out two missing ninja who were fleeing the country, Ame saw his own comrades as a threat to the mission as they had sustained a wound to the chest. Ame quickly stabbed his own comrade through the chest, continuing the mission without the burden of a hurt and useless teammate to carry around. When Ame was ordered to give a report of the mission, he openly admitted to killing his associate for the sake of the mission, earning him quite the fearsome name among the Hunter ninja.
Ame is a complex machine, boasting considerable amount of skill in his line of work and dangerous enough to take on missing ninja and enemies to the country on a daily basis. His broad mastery of the human body, whether it be mentally or physically, has allowed Ame to manipulate his opponents in ways that could send a chill down even the strongest of shinobi's spine. His lack of morals allows him to go to the farthest ends of forcing his target(s) to speak, or keep them silent, need be. Ame's sinister methods are noteworthy as they say something about who lies behind the mask. Without the burden of a life outside of his assigned role, Ame has no need to contemplate on his actions. Killing the innocent, utilizing immoral methods of interrogation, and even scarring people mentally and physically without thought are all examples of how far Ame is willing to go in the name of his mission. Ame's extensive mastery of water manipulation has become a staple for his interrogation and torture techniques. Ame will physically inject an outside source of water into his target and control it from within them, contorting their innards and doing levels of internal that are often regarded as irreversible. His usage of lightning natured chakra also comes into play, using it to stimulate the nerve endings of his target to amplify levels of pain far past their norm. Such dark and horrifying methods of torture are beyond what is even taught by the Hunter ninja, who focus more on physical torture through tools and poisons.
The perfect balance of Yin and Yang; this is a concept that Ame believes in very sternly. He is not one to go preaching about his ideology, but he sees himself as a major contributor of the balance of the world. For every twenty good, strong-willed and kind-hearted soul there is someone like Ame who was designed to counter the good. Ame was created as an attempt towards an emotionless soldier who thought not on his own free will, but as a weapon of his superiors. In order to perfect his mission, to protect and serve from the shadows, Ame saw fit for him to establish some form of free will. Although small, within the monstrosity that is Ame lies the ability to think and act on his own.
Appearance[]
Standing at around 6 feet, Ame has a lean build and is fairly muscular, boasting a considerable amount of strength despite his size. His hair is cut short and is a light black in color. As both a testament to his lack of identity and how seriously he takes his mission as a Hunter-nin, Ame constantly wears his signature white-mask which bares some resemblance to the mythological kitsune. Ame dresses in plain black clothing, his attire consisting of a black kosode and hakama with a gray-colored obi around his waist. Ame wears fingerless gloves that stretch up past his elbows, along with two ebony colored bangles around his right hand.
Dating back several years, when he was only nine years old, Ame was branded with a tattoo that all subjects of Project Serpent that stretches out across his shoulders and down his arms. The tattoo is of a long snake with kanji running along its back with the symbol of the village, Kirigakure no Sato at the center of his back with a form of sealing technique circling around it. Due to the amount of secrecy that Ame upholds, very few have ever bare witness the the tattoo inscribed across his back.
Equipment[]
The equipment of a Hunter ninja is their most valuable asset, as it allows them to perform their objection with precision and skill that cannot be dealt with the brutish ideology of a swordsman or the simplicity of a ninjutsu expert.
Tantō Pair: Given to him at the age of nine, this pair of tantō are Ame's most attributed weapon. These tantō are not built to be used in sword combat and instead are used for quick assassinations and bifurcations. Although far from the level of skill a Samurai may have in the field of swordsmanship, Ame's aptitude with these tantō allow him to quickly dispatch foes twice his size. The shadows become Ame's closest ally when utilizing his tantō, as it allows him to sit and wait for the right moment to strike as even the slightest mistake can make his efforts in vain.
Senbon: A primary tool of the Hunter ninja, made for precise killings and attacking vital areas. The usage of the senbon are most notable when trying to silence a fleeing opponent or for methods of interrogation. A common method of forcing somebody to speak for Ame is to apply senbon through his target(s) palms to keep them together, then running five individual senbon through each finger. Applying poison to these senbon increase their strength and deadliness, allowing Ame to both poison and paralyze his opponents from a distance.
Scalpel: Another common tool for Hunter ninja which is used for body disposing. Ame has shown to be versed in utilizing a scalpel, removing the heads of his target(s) within a matter of seconds through chakra control. A steady hand and perfect eyes are needed to utilize a scalpel to its highest degree, both of which Ame has.
Hunter ninja mask: The signature mask of Ame which bears resemblance to a mythological kitsune. Although it seemingly appears to be a very standard mask, it differs greatly from the norm of Hunter ninja masks. Crafted by the researchers of Project Serpent, the mask is incredibly durable and is lined with a thin membrane of chakra which allows it to withstand quite a punch. Resistant to fire, water, and weather conditions the mask has become apart of what little identity that Ame has although he would never admit it.
Wire: Another tool within the Hunter ninja's arsenal that Ame utilizes to a great degree is wire, which has dozens of applications when utilized properly. Capable of subduing targets, cutting off the circulation on an amputated wound, choking an opponent, and many more uses; Ame has shown to carry a spool of wire within his kosode connected to his upper arm.
Poisons:
- Snake's Bite: Taking the form of small, condescend pills, the Snake's Bite poison is inserted orally into an immobile target as a method of interrogation. The poison induces nausea and vomiting and if Ame goes over the standard dosage, it can prove to be fatal.
- Yellow Mist: Ame wields two forms of this poison; the seeds and the condensed form of the plant that can be injected into a target. Capable of slowing even the largest of targets down; the Yellow Mist induces sleepiness, staggering, and slight frothing at the mouth. By administering an overdose of Yellow Mist, the target has a high chance of slipping into a coma.
- Rock Jaw: A highly paralytic poison, normally used as coating on Ame's weaponry, Rock Jaw is capable of inducing muscle twitches or by a broader extent complete paralysis for up to five hours.
- Death Wish: A spherical white berry that is capable of inducing cardiac arrest when eaten. For stealthy assassinations, Ame will crush one of these berries and place it into the drink of his "target". The effects occur over the course of one hour, and are 90% of the time fatal.
Powers & Abilities[]
To define Ame's strength in a few words would be impossible, as a specifically trained shinobi and assassin like Ame is highly complex in his methods of attack and approach towards combating his target(s). Due to his status, Ame lacks any reputation to go along with his strength, but those who have succumbed to the cold steel of his blade or subjected to the horrendous torture he had inflicted witnessed in their final moments the power that this nameless and faceless soldier possessed. Due to the nature of his upbringing, Ame lacks the concept of guilt or regret and performs his assignments without fail and because of this trait, has been assigned to branch out onto assignments beyond securing the safety of the village's secrets. During the events of the Third Shinobi World War, Ame was tasked with a recon mission towards the border of the country where Konohagakure no Sato shinobi were gathering. The elders of the village wanted reason to sick their own shinobi onto the Konohagakure shinobi who claimed to be on a mission of peace. Ame was ordered to slaughter the small village located near the outpost, placing the Konohagakure shinobi as the culprits, escalating the war in the process. When asked how he felt when he slaughtered the lives of nearly one hundred innocent woman and children, Ame replied with "He felt accomplished."
His skill set is not limited to one field of expertise and is instead split between a wide array of abilities and skills. As a member of the Hunter ninja, and one of the most prime examples of a Hunter ninja, Ame boasts superior skills in assassination and medical skills. One of his highest priorities is to make sure the secrets of the village do not leak into the rest of the shinobi world, meaning Ame must dispose of the bodies to the point where they cannot be purged for information. Dissection, body mutilation, corpse burning and chakra sapping are all methods of body disposing that Ame is versed in. To put into context how precise Ame is in the field of body disposing, he has reached a point where he can remove the head of a deceased target with only a scalpel in a matter of seconds without fail each time.
To master the Human anatomy is a trait that all Hunter ninja are versed in and Ame is no exception. His knowledge of the human anatomy is well tuned for his specific line of work. At his disposal are a wide array of poisons and tools specifically made to target points of the Human Body, such as a paralyzing toxin that stiffens the muscles which stops a target in their tracks for a period of nearly seven hours. This unique toxin must be ingested and is primarily used to stop a target from talking, to stop them from potentially revealing any secrets about the village. Ame's precision with ninja tools is also noteworthy, wielding a wide array of senbon which have the ability to puncture vital areas and do serious damage with proper usage. In Ame's case, wire strings are a very applicable ninja tool and when used right is capable of outstanding results. Often used to tie down his target(s), or in some cases for sewing and even quick assassination if need be, Ame carries a large spool of wire within his attire for quick usage. Ninja tools are a major part of a Hunter ninja's arsenal, hence Ame's heavy usage of tools ranging from smoke bombs to poison-dipped senbon. His most notable ninja tools are his pair of tantō which rest at his waist. Highly trained in close quarters combat, especially with his tantō, Ame is capable of quick bifurcation and assassination with these sharpened blades.
Among his fellow Hunter ninja in "The Undertaker Squad", Ame is referred to as the Blank Slate. He lacks a true identity and constantly hides behind a mask, while most members of the Hunter ninja dawn their original persona when removing their mask. The results of Project Serpent proved it to be a success as Ame, had inevitably become, a perfect soldier for the village. Lacking an identity made him incapable of posing a threat and his detachment from the world has allowed Ame to perform tasks deemed by "inhumane" even by a Hunter ninja's standard.
