The Hazure clan (伊賀の一族, Hazure no Ichizoku) was a relatively small clan originating within the borders of the Land of Fire, close to Konohagakure. However, during the First Shinobi World War, the remaining members migrated to the village of Manjidani, located in the Land of Whirlpools. Upon arriving in Manjidani, they quickly became the rivals to the Kōga clan (甲賀の一族, Kōga no Ichizoku) - a rivalry so heated it sparked a war between the two. Due to the war between the said clans, the already small number of clansmen greatly diminished, with no more than a dozen members having survived. It is unknown when they branched off, but the members of the Shimura clan are descended from the Hazure.
History[]
Birth of the Hazure[]
The first known records of the Hazure clan were made known around twenty years after the Nine-Tails' attack on Konohagakure. These records told of the origins of the glorious clan.
The documents start with the birth of Gōji (ゴージ, Japanese for "gorge"), a shinobi descended from the Sage of the Six Paths, who was born into a small clan that thrived in the Land of Fire. This clan was soon massacred, with Gōji, the age of twelve, being the last survivor. Moving a few villages west, the man soon recreated the clan with a new name - the Hazure. When of age, he married a young woman, and they were soon with child, a beautiful baby girl. One day, Gōji went with a scouting party with several other members of his family. Soon, they were all caught up in the heat of battle, with the end result being the death of him and the scouting party. Upon hearing this dreadful news, his wife took up the position of clan-head until her time had come.
The woman's control of the clan, having been in charge for almost fifteen years, was suddenly halted when she was assassinated by rivaling clans. Because of her heritage, her daughter, named Kichō (貴重, Japanese for "precious"), was named clan-head at the tender age of fourteen. She ran the clan very successfully, even creating peace treaties with several clans that had once been fierce rivals. Up until her "natural" death at the age of sixty-seven, the clan had been at peace with all clans within the Land of Fire. Her own son, the rightful heir to the clan, was then put in charge. He, too, ran the clan with success; however, he was quickly revealed to be the mastermind behind his mother's death. After a swift execution of the man, the Hazure were left without an heir.
Turmoil ensues[]
Several years later, a child by the name of Gennō (玄翁, Japanese for "bushhammer") was born with extraordinary talents, talents unheard of within the Hazure clan. This child was put above all else, as he was to be protected until he was of age. But with great power, comes great danger; enemy clans - tossing their treaties aside - sent assassins after the clan to kill the new heir, but all attempts had been failures. Once Gennō was old enough to lead the clan, he welcomed the next assassin, hoping to prove to the clansmen that he was capable of leading their family. Upon confrontation, the assassin was quickly killed, with Gennō surviving without anything but a scratch.
Unbeknownst to him and the Hazure, Gennō had been cut with a kunai dipped in poison. This poison was like nothing ever encountered by the clan and Gennō soon succumb to the substance. Thankfully, Gennō had taken a wife a year before and they had given birth to a child, who was given the title of clan-head; however, until he came of age, his caretaker, Mukoku (無告, Japanese for "helpless"), was named acting clan-head - the first person given said title. Sadly, the child died from an unknown disease soon after Mukoku was made acting clan-head. From that point on, Mukoku was made the actual clan-head
First Shinobi World War[]
For several decades, Mukoku kept the peace within and outside the Hazure, with very few conflicts coming up with any of the other clans. Once the village system, created by Hashirama Senju, later known as the first hokage, was established, the Hazure were assimilated into Konohagakure. Despite how peaceful Konohagakure was, the peace soon ended when the First Shinobi World War was declared. Many of the clansmen left to fight in the war, greatly diminishing their numbers. The others, not wanting any part in the ensuing violence, packed up and left - traveling east - where they hoped to find refuge.
And refuge they found, in the form of Manjidani, a small village in the Land of Whirlpools. Small compared to the countries hidden village - Uzushiogakure - the village served the Hazure well. Once they settled down in Manjidani, they were greeted by the Kōga clan, an enemy to the Uzumaki clan of Uzushio and the original settlers of Manjidani. Picking the lesser of two evils, the Hazure maintained better relations with the Uzumaki, who far outnumbered the Hazure and Kōga combined. Because of this, a rivalry sparked between the two, a rivalry that would play a large role in the destruction of both clans.
Tensions arise[]
For almost a century, the two clans were civil. With this false peace, the clans signed a peace treaty, a suggestion made by the Hiruzen Sarutobi, the third hokage at the time. However, once Hiruzen, the lynchpin of their treaty, was killed by Orochimaru, the Kōga considered the treaty to be null-and-void. During one of the Hazure's routine scoutings, the Kōga struck; all but one of the members of the party were killed, with the survivor dying only moments after notifying the clan-head of the time. Upon the revelation that the Kōga were now out for blood, the clan-head declared war. The Uzumaki, having kept good relations with the Hazure for many decades, took to the battlefield on the Hazure's side; combining their fūinjutsu with the Hazure's jōton, they quickly took the upper-hand in the war.
Throughout the war, now known as the Manjidani Civil War, the tides of battle constantly shifted, with both sides being pretty evenly damaged by its conclusion. After almost six years had passed, the Hazure and Uzumaki decided to end things once and for all. Each and every participant in the war took part in the final battle, with the majority of the deaths taking place on the Kōga's side. In the end, the entirety of the Kōga clan were wiped out - the clan forever being lost in history. On the Hazure and Uzumaki's side, the Hazure lost a great deal of their own, while the Uzumaki were hardly affected. Since then, the survivors have continued life in Manjidani, putting the past behind them and working towards a brighter future.
Abilities[]
Since the clan's founding by Gōji, the Hazure have been known for their natural aptitude towards combat, as well as unusually large reserves of chakra. Despite being created in the Land of Fire, the clan has shown a tremendous proficiency in wind techniques, the most rare of the five basic elements shinobi enlist in combat. Their skill in the use of wind nature chakra is so advanced that they have created several high-level techniques, one being their signature jutsu. The Hazure are also quite adept at the use of fūinjutsu, having been trained by the Uzumaki clan, who were and still are recognized as the leading users of sealing techniques.
Kekkei Genkai[]
After the birth of Gennō, the Hazure clan were gifted with the jōton, or emotion release, as a kekkei genkai. However, despite being a bloodline limit, a very select number of members of the clan every obtained it - only appearing once in every few generations. For those few clansmen who are born with the jōton, an opponent's mind becomes their greatest weapon. Jōton is a subcategory of the yin-yang release, making it a deadly threat to whoever's facing it. By emitting a wave of chakra, the user can gain access to an opponent's thoughts and feelings. Once read and processed, the user can bend said adversary's emotions. A user of jōton, by using their yin-yang abilities, is also capable of bringing their emotions to life and incarnate imagination.
Location[]
The Hazure were originally founded in the Land of Fire, not far from where Konohagakure would be established a few decades later. Immediately following the outbreak of the First Shinobi World War, the clansmen that didn't enlist to fight in the war migrated to a place far from the war. When they finally stopped and settled down, they had found themselves in the small country known as the Land of Whirlpools. Wanting to be quiet and not disturb the inhabitants of the land, the Hazure clan settled themselves in a small village known as Manjidani. Unknown to them, the Kōga clan that lived in said village were not friendly and demanded that the Hazure leave. Refusing, the rivalry of hatred was born. After the Manjidani Civil War, the Hazure rebuilt the ruined village with their way of life in mind, destroying any remnants of the Kōga's history within Manjidani.
Clan information[]
Population: Before the creation of the village system, the Hazure clan were very abundant; their estimated numbers to be in the hundreds. Once Hashirama Senju developed the village system that still stands today, the large clan assimilated themselves into the village that was known as Konohagakure. After the village's first census, it was recorded that four out of every ten villagers were a member of the Hazure. However, this soon changed with the outbreak of war; while most of the clansmen took to the battlefield to help defend their beloved village, the members who had stayed back migrated to the Land of Whirlpools. Upon the journey's completion, the Hazure clan's numbers had diminished greatly - only forty-six members were still alive. As they stayed in Manjidani, they began to finally prosper again, but this was cut short by the Kōga clan. Once the civil war had come to an end, the Hazure were only a mere twelve. Since that time, the clan has began to grow, with their numbers now in the sixties.
Politics: Like almost any other clan, the Hazure are governed over by the head of the clan, or clan-head. This leader is usually chosen by their heritage, but there are several times when qualities outshine heritage. Once of these cases was Gennō, the fifth clan-head; Gennō was born to a young couple within the Hazure, but was cast away once their learned of his unique abilities. Once found, he was named the new clan-head, but wouldn't be called so until he came of age. Under the clan-head is a council of the four most revered members of the clan. These four, plus the clan-head, are what make of the Hazure Court, a court that the clansmen go to when their is a dispute or a crime has been reported. The five people that make up the court are the supreme authority within the Hazure, with any and all decisions being made by said individuals. Despite being a member of the court, the clan-head stays out of affairs unless there is a tie between decisions, with the leader being the final say.
