Naruto Namikaze (なると なみけいどず, Namikaze Naruto) is the Sixth Hokage (六題名火影, Rokudaime Hokage, lit. Sixth Fire Shadow) of Konohagakure. Naruto's name is of legendary standing and he is reputed as not only one of the greatest shinobi that Konohakagure has ever produced, but currently the strongest shinobi of his time. He played an essential role in the chaos that was the Fourth Shinobi World War, helping lead the Allied Shinobi Forces to victory. Naruto ascended to the rank of Kage five years ago after Tsunade, the Fifth passed on the mantle to him. Originally, Tsunade had planned on passing the title to Kakashi Hatake due to the latter being more experienced and to give Naruto some more time to grow in terms of leadership skills. However, Kakashi declined the position and asserted that his former student was more then ready for the position. Since then, Naruto has distinguished himself as a Hokage like none other and is praised by many as the strongest and most compassionate Hokage.
Naruto is the third and current Jinchūriki of Kurama — the Nine-Tails. He is known to be one of the few in history to be in perfect sync with their respective Bijū. As a result of his background in this area, Naruto has pushed to stop the undeserved hate and ostracization that plagues the lives of so many jinchūriki. The reception of this has been mixed depending on the village in question, since old ways are hard to break.

- Naruto changed his surname in honor of his late father, Minato. Also, for the fact that "Namikaze" would be his proper surname. The only reason his surname was made "Uzumaki" was to protect him from his father's enemies, a safeguard for a child .
